With the New Year comes new gear

As many of you may have seen, TaylorMade have made their first release of the new year already with their new SIM (Shape In Motion) driver.

In my first go with the SIM, I achieved some impressive numbers which I'm sure would improve even more if I had it in the bag permanently.

Don’t put your clubs away…

After playing a lot of golf over the summer months and maintaining a certain standard, it is so easy to pack the clubs away when the temperature drops.

Continuing to play and practice during the winter months allows you to maintain your momentum through the Winter, and play a different type of golf. It allows you to challenge yourself and play the course in a totally different way which can only benefit your game in the long run.

Use the winter months well, get a plan in place for the new season ahead and keep that momentum going by taking advantage of the coaching packages available to you. Allow me to assist your winter practice and prepare you for a successful year on the course.

Tour news

Four decades of victories

Lee Westwood recorded his own little piece of history when he closed out the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship on Sunday.

Winning by two from Frenchman Victor Perez and English duo Matthew Fitzpatrick, and Tommy Fleetwood, it meant the popular former world number one has now claimed Tour titles across four decades – his first was all the way back at the 1996 Scandinavian Masters.

It was also Westwood’s 25th European Tour victory to leave him 8th on the all-time list and thrust him back into Ryder Cup contention for Whistling Straits later this year.

Layer up

Last week we talked about one of our favourite topics: rain! Whilst waterproof protection is key for staying dry when caught in a downpour, combining layers of clothing underneath is vital if you want to enjoy the warmth without being so restricted that you can’t complete your backswing.

What do we mean by layering?

Lots of golfers are still in the habit of putting on as many layers as they possibly can in the winter to combat the cold – a vest, turtleneck, polo, sweater and jacket – but today’s golf clothing could easily cut that down by half.

What do we suggest?

From polos that keep you at a cool temperature in the summer to padded jackets that lock in warmth like adidas' Frostguard above, having the right piece of clothing can do the job of several poor layers. Pop by the shop to have a look at our clothing collections.
