Well the days are certainly getting shorter and the mornings are getting colder. This only means one thing......winter is coming and there is no reason why you shouldn't enjoy your winter golf!
Firstly as soon as you read this I want you to check your spikes on your golf shoes. Leaves and mud are now starting to clog up the bottom of shoes, and if your spikes are worn you may as well not have any. If you are unsure if your shoes need new spikes then come and ask us for advice and we will swap them whilst you enjoy a nice warm coffee for FREE !
Secondly wear the right clothes. I see so may people playing golf in winter looking like the Michelin Man. They've worn that many layers they can't physically swing. The key is layering up the right way. In the coldest conditions you only need 3 layers and you won't lose any heat. For advice on how to layer up properly enabling you to swing, call in today or come and have a chat with us in the pro shop.
Finally keep your head and hands covered. Over the winter months it is well worth investing in a good warm hat and a pair of gloves or mittens. Your hands and head are the main 2 points of your body that heat will be lost. Therefore it is essential to keep the heat in and maintain feeling in your fingers.
Don't worry we have lots in stock so come and take a look and have a wonderful winters' golf.
It had been a while, but it was fantastic to see Padraig Harrington win again on the European Tour, his first Tour title for eight years at the weekend's Portugal Masters.
He's won three Majors of course, but you could tell this one meant a lot, and his gritty up-and-down at the final hole summed up what he's all about.
"It's a big win," said the 45-year-old. "I tried to be really aggressive. The golf course really suited me and I just tried to go after every pin I could.
"I have a pretty good short game that was on form this week. No matter where I hit it, I felt like I could get it up and down."
That short game helped him get to 23 under par, but it was his chip on the 18th that secured the title after his final approach had cannoned into the grandstands.
The impressive Andy Sullivan watched on with interest - as a playoff looked on the cards - but the Irishman's chip to five feet was right out of the top drawer, and he cleaned up for the win.
The moral of the story? Hard work and perseverance pays off! Well done Padraig.
